Drag Me To Hell Review

There is no doubt about it Sam Raimi still has it. I’m sure many were worried Raimi had lost his touch in a world of high-end high-budget Hollywood films, but this simple isn’t the case. Drag me to Hell is indeed a return to true horror films.

Drag Me To Hell is one of the most entertaining studio horror films in a very long time. The very first few scenes establish this movie as a grade ‘A’ horror film. Raimi is comfortable switching back to his roots as a director and it shows on-screen. Whether you are an average movie goer or a horror fanatic this movie is for you. Raimi is truly a master at his craft.

The films starts as a bank officer Christine (Allison Lohman) is in competition for a promotion over a new co-worker. She needs to be able to make the hard decisions if she wants the promotion. She decides to deny an elderly woman a loan extension. The older creepy woman is shocked and puts a curse on Christine. The curse lasts three days and on the third day Christine will be dragged to hell. Christine goes through great horror and pain to try to rid the Curse from her.

Drag Me To Hell is a quick paced terrifying experience. The film never tries to be anything but what it is, an 80′s style horror flick that never lets up once it starts. The film doesn’t go off on tangents that many horror films and writers tend to go off on, myself included. The characters and plot development happen in a remarkable speed that simply works. Lohman does a great and believable job in her role as Christine, contrary to many reviews on the film.  You will find yourself horrified, scared, laughing, screaming, squirming in your seat all in one movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone interested in a genuinely great horror film, textbook horror.  Definitely, buy this one or at the very least watch it.
