Lost Boys The Tribe

Posted March 30, 2009 at 8:26 pm by Jeff

To jump start vampire week I wanted to review a pretty cool movie that may not be so well known. Its a sequal to the original Lost Boys. I loved the original lost boys. I was pretty excited to watch this. I wasn’t let down. It was enjoyable the whole way through. I loved the Cory Feldman character Edgar Frog. The story starts out as the former surfer Chris Emerson and his sister Nicole Emerson move to the Luna Bay area. They move into a wrecked house with their Aunt Jillian who charges rent. Chris runs into his old acquaintance and former surfer Shane Powers. Nicole is turned into a half vampire and Chris has to save his sister and kill off the vampire tribe. He has help by the funny vampire slayer/board shaper Edgar Frog. I really enjoyed the movie. I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars.

Hack!

Posted March 9, 2009 at 7:16 am by Jeff

I have to admit being a computer nerd and when reading this title I thought it was something completely different. I didn’t hear any about this movie, but I decided to go ahead and watch it. I admit this is one of those horror films that believes its smarter and funnier than it really is. Basically the movie starts with several students picked to go onto a field trip to study wildlife. They don’t get to start because o a series of cliché horror movie murders happen.

There were a couple things I instantly thought was cool about this movie. For one, it had Winnie Cooper, ok thats not her real name but Danica McKellar was an instant enjoyment for me. Also, a funny guy from the tv series scrubs, Travis Schuldt is also on this movie, although not for very long he is still in the movie.

Now, getting to the movie, I really enjoyed the fact that they started basically copying off older horror movies and that was the point. The killers in the movie were hack movie directors and writers and they were basically trying to recreate these moments. My favorite part without giving too much away was the ring sequence. I give this movie 3 out of 5 stars.

Night Of The Living Dorks

Posted January 29, 2009 at 4:39 pm by Jeff

This Germany film called Die Nacht der lebenden Loser or translated Night Of The Living Dorks. This film is so funny. Its actually a parady of Zombie films. Its great. Its not the best movie and I really wouldn’t even give it more than 2 stars for a horror film its still pretty entertaining.

Three school friends Phillip (Tino Mewes), Wurst (Manuel Cortez), and Konrad (Thomas Schmieder) are the nerds of the school. They are picked on and don’t have any social skills. Phillip desires the beautiful Uschi (Nadine Germann).  Wurst is Phillips pot smoking friend. Konrad lists all his humilation in a book.  When phillips neighbor Rebecca  (Collien Fernades) performs voodoo phillip and his friends think its a joke. When they have a fatal accident they realise it wasn’t a joke. They are all zombies and they must figure out how to become human again before its too late.

I really did enjoy the movie as a comedy. Its worth watching with you and a few friends.

Otis

Posted January 29, 2009 at 1:10 pm by Jeff

This 2008 movie is a dark comedy horror flick all the way. I thought it was a pretty funny movie with a lot of odd circumstances. A typical family with odd but normal problems none the less. The movie starts as the lead character Riley Lawson (Ashley Johnson) meets the pizza delivery guy Otis (Bostin Christopher). Otis who is also a serial killer decides this is the girl who wants to kidnap after he accidentally killed the last girl.

Otis kidnaps Riley on her way to school one day. The movie follows her family along as they work with the fbi to try to save their daughters lives. They eventuall take it into their own hands. The movie has some dark moments and some funny moments. Overall this movie is a decent watch. Below isn’t a trailer like normal for each film i talk about but its a clip from the movie. Enjoy

I give it a 3/5 stars.

Lost Signal aka Dead Of Winter

Posted January 29, 2009 at 10:38 am by Jeff

I thought this movie would be great to watch since I was trapped inside my house by an Ice storm.

It took me forever to realize this movie was called Lost Signal. The usa title is Dead of Winter. Directed by Brian McNamara this movie is a psychological thriller. Normally lower budget movies like these don’t give me an errie feeling but this one did. Its been called a modern day shining in a nicer or meaner way by some people on the IMDB. I would have to disagree while not the best movie its pretty entertaining.

The movie takes place New Years Eve.  Kevin Healy (Al Santos) and Tiffany Matthews (Sandra McCoy)  decide to celebrate the new year by trying L.S.D. That leads to a night of eerie circumstances. They must brave the elements and face their inner demons to survive the deep ice covered forest.

Overall I would give this movie a 4 out of 5 stars. Its not the best movie ever but its great to watch on a night when your also stuck inside my an ice storm.

Mirrors

Posted January 25, 2009 at 5:10 pm by Jeff

Mirrors is awesome. I took me several tries before I actually could finish it but honestly this movie is great.

In New York, the former NYPD detective Ben Carson is hired to work as night watch of the remains of the Mayflower Department Store that was partially destroyed by fire many years ago. Ben became alcoholic and was retired from the police force after killing a man in a shooting. His marriage was also destroyed and now he is living in the apartment of his younger sister Angie. However he has not been drinking for three months and sees the employment as a chance to rebuild his life. When he goes to the rounds in his first night, he finds that the mirrors are impeccably clean and his colleague explains that the former night watch was obsessed by the mirrors. After a couple of nights, Ben sees weird images in the mirrors, but due to the lack of credibility of his past, his ex-wife Amy believes he has hallucinations as a side effect of his medication. When Angie is found brutally murdered in her bathtub, Ben discovers that there is an evil force in the mirror that is chasing him and jeopardizing his family. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This movie is one of the scariest movies i’ve seen in a while. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good scare. Its not a perfect movie but the normal problem for these high budget horror films doesn’t appear to be a problem for this one. The story is great and the acting is superb.

I give this one 4/5 stars.

Fido

Posted January 14, 2009 at 10:42 pm by Jeff

Fido was directed by Andew Currie and was released in march of 07. As soon as this movie started I knew i would love it. If you love zombie movies this movie is for you. The whole concept of this movie is so twisted. Head coffins, Zombie slaves, ZoCom. Timmy Robinson isn’t a popular kid. He is picked on by two bullies. His father has already purchased life insurance on him because he feels little timmy will be picked off before he is too old.

The Robinson family buys a zombie and it becomes timmys best friend after the zombie, Fido, saves timmy from the two bullies. A string of events unfold that are both comical and well mostly comical that start with Fido eating the mean, rude, old woman Mrs. Henderson. From the devices that keep zombies at bay to the dark but comical humor this movie is perfect for any zombie fanboy. I give this movie a 5/5.

The Day The Earth Stood Still(2008)

Posted December 14, 2008 at 12:40 am by Jeff

The Day The Earth Stood still is a remake of the original film from 1951. The movies plot is basically an alien and his giant robot counterpart visit earth. In this movie Klaatu and Gort land on earth and Klaatu is shot upon trying to give a friendly handshake to a scientist. Klaatu has the power to destroy the whole human race if he feels its the only way to save Earth.

This is a pretty good sci-fi movie. The only problem i felt is towards the ending of the movie it went from a truly intelligent sci-fi flick to a 2nd rate hollywood action movie. Either way i would still recommend going to  see it and judging it yourself.

Dawn Of The Dead (2004)

Posted November 25, 2008 at 7:54 pm by Dave

Under the award winning direction of Zach Snyder, the 2004 remake of the 1978 screenplay from the mind of George Romero won the Golden Trailer for best horror/thriller movie for the year.

Unlike most horror movies of the day, this movie leaves out nonsensical themes like “love conquers all, cuddles and family values,” this one cuts right to the chase with one liner’s like “Tell him to shoot Burt Reynolds”. Cut to headshot.

This movie is entertaining to the audience of today, complete with armies of the undead, being decapitated with chainsaws and main characters being turned into flesh eating zombies.

This will keep you on the edge of your seat until the moment that the zombies enter your living room and get you as well.
