Can Zombies Run?

Posted March 31, 2010 at 11:25 pm by Jeff

Do Zombies Run? If you’re reading this article chances are you’ve had the discussion. Do zombies run? I thought it was something interesting enough to write about here.  Feel free as always to comment and make fun of me if you’d like :) .

I have always enjoyed the Romero Zombie, the slow zombie. I know the argument the fast, agile, strong zombie is much more terrifying but is it realistic or as realistic as we can get for a discussion on zombies. There are several factors to look into when discussing this topic. For one, what happens when a human turns?  Rigor Mortis sets in on average around 3 to 4 hours after death. This statement alone would in some peoples opinions cause them to believe zombies can not run, but there is something they are all missing. Rigor Mortis ceases after about 24 – 72 hours.

If as some believe a person is slowly being turned to a zombie as they are closer to death, wouldn’t this also start up the Rigor Mortis process? So couldn’t a zombie start out slow, speed slightly up once Rigor Mortis ceases and then slow down again once the body completely breaks down?

My personal belief is there is way to much against the zombie to allow them to even have a nice stride. If its a real zombie, a person who dies and comes back, and not a rage virus like on 28 days later.. I do not believe we have to worry about “runners”.  Depending on body type, ie. leg size, I think we can safely assume most can out run a zombie. The only things to keep in mind is a zombie has no endurance limits and we still don’t know how long a zombie will take until it fully breaks down. Can we find a safe place and wait out the zombie apocalypse?

evildeadreissue

From Grindhouse Releasing:

Landmark Theatres will present the director’s 35mm print of EVIL DEAD at special midnight shows in Minneapolis, Denver, Seattle, New York, Houston, Dallas, and Los Angeles in the first quarter of 2010.

Grindhouse Releasing has created a new full-color movie poster for the theatrical reissue of the 1981 horror classic. Designed by Tad Leger, the collectible one-sheet features rare photos from the original EVIL DEAD movie poster shoot by Mike Ditz.

“We’ve had tremendous response to our announcement that EVIL DEAD has returned,” says David Szulkin, head of theatrical bookings for Grindhouse Releasing. “We want to show it in as many cities as we can, and encourage fans to contact us and petition their local theater to screen the movie.”

Endorsed by Raimi, producer Rob Tapert, and star/co-producer Bruce Campbell, Grindhouse Releasing’s reissue of EVIL DEAD will hit theaters across North America in the coming year.

More cities will be announced as they are confirmed. The first dates and venues are as follows:

STEPHEN KING’S: THE TALISMAN by Mathieu Ratthe

Posted January 3, 2010 at 12:12 am by Jeff

This short film is a demo scene from the book The Talisman written by Stephen King and Peter Straub. Mathieu Ratthe is a very talented film maker and this demo scene really proves it. I would have to say this is one of the most well done and entertaining short films I’ve ever seen.

Zombieland 2

Posted January 1, 2010 at 4:01 am by Jeff

With the success of the hugely popular cult film Zombieland there are talks of making a part 2 in 3-D. According to a story on Variety, Sony is in the process of signing on all the old cast for a sequel. Variety has reported Sony has already locked down the original producer and director and are currently talking with the cast.

Zombieland was one of the raddest movies I’ve seen all year, but i’m not sure how good a sequel will be. Despite all that I’m still actually excited to see where this goes. What are your thoughts on a sequel?
